Minor injuries and illnesses are treated in the school infirmary. In case of a major injury, the student/s are immediately taken to the nearest hospital, and parents/guardians are notified. Parents/guardians are liable for the payments of such medical expenses.

The School gives the utmost priority to the safety and wellbeing of learners, and ensure the safety and wellbeing of every learner in the school. Students will be handed to their parents only or the person/s authorized by parents. However, middle school and secondary school students may be allowed to go home after the School or bus stop on their own upon receiving a written application from parents for permission to do so.

Learning becomes effective when learners feel valued, cared for, secure and supported. Students with well–developed social and emotional skills are better equipped to manage themselves, develop resilience and a sense of self-worth, engage in teamwork, and feel positive about themselves and the world around them.

The School has purpose–built classrooms and facilities that allow students to have unique and enriching learning experience in the school. All classrooms are spacious and equipped with teaching and learning resources. A limited number of students are kept in each class so as to enable teachers to give every young learner individual attention and care. At NIST, teaching-learning approach is enquiry–based which fosters active and experiential learning among students. Our teachers engage students in active learning that helps them learn how to learn rather than what to learn. Students are encouraged to think critically rather than being a passive recipient of information from teachers. Thus, students play important part in their own learning process.

The School implements a team–teaching (also called Grade teaching) up to Grade three considering students with their different backgrounds and intellectual levels. Team–teaching helps our teachers plan their lessons, set learning goals and activities to meet the needs of individuals or groups of students. In the middle and secondary levels, our teachers adopt the project–based and problem–solving approaches to teaching–learning while teaching units of different subjects.

We believe in continuous learning and the improvement of learning outcomes for learners. A Continuous Assessment System (CAS) is employed to assess our learners’ understanding and performance. A set of class/home assignments, unit / monthly tests, term exams, individual and group project works are given to learners to regularly monitor their learning outcomes. Thus, we implement both formative and summative assessment systems across all grades.
